Stambaugh youth band to perform in spring concert
The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band’s annual spring concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

The concert will feature senior soloists Alex Stojkov (clarinet) and Alisha Moore (horn), and also will showcase several compositions: “Overture for Winds” by Charles Carter, “Of Sailors and Whales” by W. Francis McBeth, “Contre Qui, Rose” by Morten Lauridsen and “National Emblem” by Edwin Eugene Bagley
Stojkov is a senior at Mathews High School in Vienna, and the principal clarinetist of the Youth Band. He has performed with SYCB in all four years of high school.
He also performs with the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra (YSYO). His solo piece will be Artie Shaw’s “Concerto for Clarinet.”
Moore is a senior at LaBrae High School in Leavittsburg and is the principal horn player of SYCB. She has performed with the Youth Band during all four years of high school and also performs with the YSYO.
She will perform “Morceau de Concert, Op. 94” for horn, by Camile Saint-Saens at the concert.
The SYCB is comprised of the top high-school musicians from Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
Students must go through auditions to participate. They rehearse weekly, September through April, and present two concerts per year.
The spring concert traditionally features senior soloists, who also are chosen through auditions.
The SYCB is under the direction of John Veneskey, Brandt Payne, Tyler Husosky and Eric Bable.
