St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Maternity Services and the Akron Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will move to Boardman on Monday.
The units will move into the St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center’s new patient tower. The seven-floor, 122-bed tower is part of a $203 million expansion in new construction and equipment improvements at the St. Elizabeth system’s three hospitals.
The new accommodations will feature drop-off parking for women in labor next to a 24-hour dedicated entrance where an elevator will go directly to the labor and delivery unit, according to a press release from Humility of Mary Health Partners.
In addition to 14 labor and delivery suites, the third-floor labor and delivery unit will have 33 private post-partum rooms for mothers and their babies.
The Akron Children’s NICU on the second floor will feature 23 rooms equipped so parents can stay with their babies. Adjoining rooms can be opened to accommodate multiples, and there are two larger rooms that can accommodate twins.
Families in the current NICU will be able to preview the new unit and pick a room for their babies from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The public is invited to an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. St. Elizabeth Boardman is at 8401 Market St., near McClurg Road.
