Judge orders former club owner to 30-day jail term

Staff report

A former club owner sentenced on multiple charges of illegal liquor sales was fined and will serve 30 days in Mahoning County jail.

Sebastian Rucci, former owner of Go Go Girls Cabaret near state Route 46 and Interstate 80, said, however, he will appeal the sentence.

Rucci was sentenced Monday night in Mahoning County Area Court here on eight counts of illegal sales of liquor. He is scheduled to serve 30 days in jail beginning April 15.

Ken Cardinal, an assistant county prosecutor, said Rucci’s fines on the eight counts total $3,000. Cardinal said before the sentencing that Rucci made a motion for a new trial, and told the judge he plans on filing an appeal before he has to report to jail.

Cardinal said the prosecutor’s written recommendation to the judge was a year and a half in jail and three years’ probation with the cabaret being closed for four years. Within that recommendation, there would be six months of the jail sentence suspended.

According to Vindicator archives, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control confiscated all alcohol from the cabaret in December 2011, saying the liquor license for the cabaret was defunct.

The club later allowed patrons to bring their own alcoholic beverages to the business.
