Niles community members will unite from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday for a Fall Festival at Stevens Park, officially launching their Relay For Life season.
The money raised at the festival will go toward reaching the $60,0000 goal of the 2014 The Relay For Life in Niles, which is tentatively scheduled for May 2-3 at the Mayor Infante Wellness Center at Waddell Park.
Festival activities include a cornhole tournament sponsored by McKinley Lanes; a chili cook off sponsored by the Privia Group; a children’s area for games with characters available for meet-and-greet sessions; a Peter Pan skit by Temenos Productions; and HBW Wrestling’s “Smack Down Cancer 2.”
DJ Dan will provide the music, and Positive Light will provide the photography. There will be more than 20 craft/vendors present, including food from the Grub Club.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, picnic, dance, play games and take turns circling around a track “relay” style to raise funds and fight cancer.
Started in 1985, Relay For Life began with one man who circled a track for 24 hours raising $27,000. This year, Relay For Life has grown to more than 5,200 communities and more than 25 countries worldwide.
