FOOD SALES AND DINNERS

TODAY

Boar’s Head Ladies of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown, will serve a chicken dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the church. The meal consists of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, bread and butter, pie and a beverage. Cost is $7. No reservations are necessary. For takeouts or to order ahead, call the church at 330-743-3175.

THURSDAY

Col. Louis J. Campbell VFW Post 3538, 157 Lowellville Road, Struthers, will serve spaghetti dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. Meals will include meatballs, salad, bread and butter, and coffee. Cost is $6.50 for adults and $3 for children under 8. Carryout orders are $7 and will be available only until 6 p.m. Containers will be provided.

FRIDAY

Christ the Good Shepherd at St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave., Campbell, will sell potato, prune and kraut pirogi. Cost is $5 a dozen. Phone orders may be made beginning at 8 a.m. at 330-755-1316, and orders can be picked up beginning at noon. Patrons are asked to provide their own containers. No walk-in orders will be available.

Holy Trinity Church, 250 Bridge St., Struthers, will sell potato, cabbage and lekvar pirogi. Orders will be taken from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at 330-755-0064. No walk-in orders will be accepted. There is a limit of three dozen cabbage pirogi while supplies last. Orders may be picked up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Containers will be provided.

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 53 Laird Ave., Youngstown, will serve fish dinners from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the church hall. The menu will consist of baked or fried Icelandic cod or fried haddock; sides of Spanish rice, haluski, macaroni and cheese, french fries or string beans (choose two); coleslaw or applesauce; bread and butter; and coffee or tea. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Dessert will be an additional $1.50. Containers will be provided for takeouts. Orders will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 330-792-1005.

Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall, 526 W. Rayen Ave., will sell potato and potato with kraut pirogi for $6 a dozen. Orders should be placed from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday or 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at 330-746-9528 and are to be picked up between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday. Hot lunches will be available at 11 a.m.

St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4310 Kirk Road, Austintown, will sell potato with cheese pirogi. To order call 330-799-0084 from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Cost is $6 per dozen. Pickup will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday; no containers are necessary. Walk-ins are welcome. Patrons are asked to use the side entrance.

St. Paul the Apostle Church, 10143 Main St., New Middletown, will sell potato, sweet cabbage and cottage cheese pirogi for $5.50 a dozen. Orders can be called to 330-542-3525 from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday and Friday. Pickup will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday. Walk-ins are welcome.

St. Stanislaus Church, 430 Williamson Ave., Youngstown, will sell potato, kraut and cottage cheese pirogi. The cost is $6 a dozen. Advance orders will be taken at 330-747-3024 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday and 8 to 11 Friday, based upon availability. Pickup will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Walk-in orders are welcome. Pirogi lunches will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

SATURDAY

Braceville United Methodist Church, 589 Park Road SW, Newton Falls, will serve a stuffed pork chop dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. or until sold out. The menu includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, applesauce, dessert, bread, and coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $9 for adults and $3.50 for children. Takeouts are available.

Kinsman United Methodist Church, 8362 Main St., will host its annual turkey dinner and bazaar. Dinner will be served from 3 to 7 p.m., and bazaar booths will open at 2 p.m. Dinner will cost $9 for adults and $4:50 for ages 4 to 12; children under 3 eat free. The church is handicapped accessible.

North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Items include eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade rolls, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and mushrooms, coffee, orange juice and other beverages. For information call the church at 330-549-2333.

The Orthodox Food Festival is planned from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 65 S. Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage, Pa. Foods from various heritages will include Serbian lamb and cevaps, Greek gyros and stuffed grape leaves, Ukrainian pirogi and stuffed cabbage and Romanian roasted chicken and mititei. There also will be pastries for sale along with live music and refreshments.

Youngstown Saxon Club’s annual Speck Fry (Saxon slab bacon) will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. at the club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Austintown. Cost of the all-you-can eat meal is $13 per person and includes pop and beer; tickets are $6 for children 12 and under. A Saxon brass band will play from 2 to 4 p.m.

SUNDAY

Ellsworth Presbyterian Church, 11171 Akron-Canfield Road, will serve dinners of chicken and gravy over biscuits from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu will include mashed potatoes, vegetable, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children 4 to 11 and free for those 3 and under. Takeouts are available. For information contact Sherry Weamer, 330-538-3771.

St. Lucy Cultural Society of Christ, the Good Shepherd at St. Lucy Church, 394 Tenney Ave., Campbell, will host a handmade spaghetti dinner from noon to 4 p.m. at the Palermo Banquet Center at the church. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Takeouts will be available until 3:30 p.m.; take your own containers or they can be purchased.

St. Paul the Apostle Church Altar Guild, Route 170, New Middletown, will host an open-pit roast beef dinner with homemade desserts from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets cost $9 for adults and $4 for children 6 to 12; those 5 and under eat for free. The church is handicapped accessible.

UPCOMING

Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman, is planning its annual International Buffet on Oct. 19. There will be seatings at 4 and 6 p.m. Cost will be $15 for adults and $6 for children 6 to 12; those 5 and under eat free. The dinner includes food and desserts from Germany, Italy, Slovakia and Sweden. Order tickets by Oct. 13 by calling the church office at 330-758-5745 or 330-758-9309. No tickets will be sold at the door, and there are no carryouts. Proceeds will used for community outreach and the support of the church’s ministry.

First United Methodist Church of Girard, 22 N. Market St., will serve its annual fall creamed chicken and biscuit dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. or until sold out Oct. 5. It will include green beans and dessert. The dinners are $8 and are carryout only.

Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, will serve a drive-through chicken dinner from 4 p.m. until sold out Oct. 3. The cost is $7, and the menu comprises stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and brownie.

Youngstown American Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave., Youngstown, will host a chicken paprikash dinner from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 6. Dinners are $8, and baked goods will be available for purchase. Reservations will be taken through Oct. 3 by calling 330-792-2620. For takeouts take your own container and save $1.25.

Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Austintown, will resume its monthly spaghetti dinners from noon to 2:30 p.m. the first Sunday of every month beginning Nov. 3. Dinners will cost $7 per person or $4 for children 12 and under. Meals include dessert and soft drinks, coffee or tea. Takeouts will be available.
