UPDATE | Pavlik will be freed from jail after posting a $2,500 bond

Published: Fri, September 20, 2013 @ 2:36 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Former boxing champion Kelly Pavlik will be released from the Mahoning County jail once he posts a $2,500 recognizance bond.

Pavlik was arrested this morning after failing to show up for arraignment in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield on a theft charge stemming from an accusation the he refused to pay a $25 cab fare after being driven home from a South Meridan Road bar earlier this week.

He was taken to the jail but court records show that his attorney filed a motion to allow him to be released and that motion was approved. A court spokeswoman confirmed that he will be allowed to post bond.

He is due back in court at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Another reason the Vindicator is turning into fishwrap! The only reason this story is front and center is because it's Pavlik. Sure he screwed up, but to harass a guy for $25 buck cab fare?? I guess he must be the second coming of Al Capone! It would be nice if this "judge" would show his deep concern for cleaning up this city where it really counts. Nice job of "Grandstanding" judge!

Kelly must have failed any economics subjects he had in school.....instead of a 25 buck cab fare, he prefers to pay a 250 buck bail-bond fee, not to mention any fines and court costs the judge may lay on his simple-minded butt.....
