Niles briefcase contains no bomb

NILES — The Youngstown police bomb squad and Niles police used a water cannon on a suspicious briefcase this morning at a church in Niles, finding out that it was harmless.

A member of Central Baptist Church, 1301 North Road, said he spotted the bag about 9:30 a.m. sitting on the porch in front of the main entrance. He became concerned and called Niles police, who notified the bomb squad. At about 11:45 a.m. the bomb squad blew open the briefcase with a water cannon, finding nothing except papers.
