Home sales up nearly 17 percent in Ohio

The Ohio Association of Realtors reported today that home sales were up 16.9 percent across Ohio in August — the 26th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.

Sales through the first eight months of 2013 reached 88,268, a 17.5 percent increase from the 75,134 sales posted during the same period a year ago. The average sales price this year is $143,786 — a 6.1 percent increase from the $135,465 mark set during the period a year ago.

Last month, sales reached 13,545 an improvement from the 11,583 homes sold in August 2012. Last month was the best total sales figure since 2006, according to OAR.

Home sales declined in all three of the Mahoning Valley’s counties last month, but the number of homes sold was still close to the average during the last year when sales gained nearly every month, according to data released this week by the Youngstown-Columbiana Association of Realtors.
