The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra will begin its Stained Glass Concert Series at 3 p.m. next Sunday at Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliff Ave.
The Stained Glass concerts, now in their second year, are part of the orchestra’s outreach program. This season, the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and Randall Craig Fleischer, music director and conductor, will visit six Mahoning Valley houses of worship including Congregation Rodef Shalom on Oct. 20; Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Nov. 10; St. Patrick’s Church, Dec. 15; First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, Feb. 16; and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Warren, March 16.
The series seeks to strengthen ties between the community and the orchestra through the performance of informal concerts that introduce the orchestra and the art form and provide opportunities for local artists from neighborhood churches to perform with the orchestra. Some selections to be performed at the concerts are music from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” from his ninth symphony, Copland’s “Hoedown” from “Rodeo” and excerpts from “Peer Gynt” by Grieg and Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake.”
