Response to crisis
When a gunman invaded an elementary school near Atlanta, a staff member deterred his intended violence by talking with him. Instead of armed response to incipient violence, should unarmed negotiators be sent instead? Can compassion and empathy help keep someone from making a bad decision? What does it mean to “love our neighbor” when they are seem intent on doing bad things? These and other questions will be the basis for a dinner and discussion on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Churchill Road.
The potluck supper begins at 5 p.m. and the discussion at 6. Visitors are expected and welcome at both the dinner and discussion. For information, call the Rev. Deborah Dockstader at 330-505-1192.

A reception will honor the bishop and his wife, Lynette, and newly baptized children and their families.
