Taylor Hall can say he’s done something even Tiger Woods can’t lay claim to: Being the first to sink a hole-in-one at a Valley golf tournament.

And he has the white, four-door 2013 Ford Fusion to prove it.

“It was a good feeling,” the 29-year-old Poland man said, referring to the shot he made on the 18th hole during the 11th annual Michael T. Hartzell Scholarship Golf Outing on July 29 at Knoll Run golf course in Lowellville. “I wasn’t playing too well up to that point.”

Hall’s 180-yard drive was the tournament’s first hole-in-one.

On Thursday, he was at Donnell Ford, 7955 Market St., where he was given the vehicle with a two-year lease.

“I like the car’s design,” said Hall, who works for his brother’s landscaping business.

Hall added that he developed an interest in golf around age 10 and plays regularly.

The fundraiser golf tournament is in memory of Hartzell, a Youngstown police officer who was shot to death April 29, 2003, in the line of duty. The outing raises money and provides Youngstown State University scholarships to children of law-enforcement personnel from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

An estimated $85,000 in scholarships has been given to more than 80 students, noted Howard Hartzell, Michael’s father.

Hartzell, who’s also an avid golfer, added that he was happy to see the tournament’s first hole-in-one.

“We support a lot of [area golf outings], but this is a special one for us,” said Davey Jones, Donnell’s general-sales manager, adding that his business has helped sponsor the Hartzell event since its inception.

“Donnell Ford has a long history of supporting charitable events in our community and we are truly honored to be part of the Michael Hartzell Scholarship Golf Outing,” added Donny Murphy, general manager.

Meanwhile, Hall added, he plans to participate in next year’s event.
