Escapee from police custody surrenders

A 44-year-old man, who escaped from a Beaver Township police cruiser and was missing for about seven hours, surrendered about 10:45 a.m. today.

Eric Stanislaw of New Springfield damaged a window on the cruiser on his way to the Mahoning County jail about 3:30 a.m. and was able to escape from the vehicle and flee through downtown Youngstown, police said. Police had charged him with operating a vehicle while impaired.

After Stanislaw turned himself in, police charged him with escape and vandalism charges.

Stanislaw has been arrested before. He has an open case of felonious obstruction of official business in county common pleas court, and was convicted in 2007 of aggravated trespassing after being arrested by Beaver Township police.
