U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, on Wednesday announced that Eastgate Regional Council of Governments has received a $169,095 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
The federal funds will be used to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy for the region, according to a press release from Brown’s office.
“These federal resources will lay the groundwork for small businesses throughout Northeastern Ohio to have a better shot at creating new opportunities and jobs in small towns and rural areas,” Brown said. “Small businesses are essential to our economy, and through this award, local communities and their residents can lead the way in rural economic development.”
The regional council, located in the city, works to foster the mutual interests, concerns and economic development of the Mahoning Valley and Ashtabula County.
A comprehensive development strategy process brings together the public and private sectors to help promote job growth, according to the release.
