Staff report

Trumbull County commissioners named Trish Nuskievicz acting director of the county planning commission after the retirement of Bill Miller last week.

Nuskievicz has been assistant director since Miller was hired in December 2008.

Miller came to the county from Cincinnati, where he was regional planning manager for the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments.

County Commissioner Paul Heltzel said a regional search will be conducted to find Miller’s permanent replacement using organizations such as the County Commissioners Association of Ohio.

Ideal candidates will come from an area 200 miles to 300 miles around Warren, including candidates from within the department.

Heltzel said he doesn’t have specific plans in mind for a new direction for the planning commission, but sometimes candidates bring new ideas to a job based on their experience.

The planning commission, which works out of the Wean Building on North Park Avenue, has staffers who write grants, handle zoning matters, foreclosure issues, demolition activity, economic development, mapping, and writes comprehensive plans for governmental bodies such as townships.
