Better sandwiches

Better sandwiches

Returning to a school or work routine is bitter-sweet. Schedules and agendas don’t have to be boring, though, when your lunch routine is anything but. Run-of-the-mill PB&J and turkey and cheese standbys are making way for a new hero: gourmet sandwich creations that inspire envy. Recipes, including one for BLT boats (above), on C2.

Deep flavors

The tricky part of marinating is making sure you don’t cross-contaminate by letting any marinade used on the raw foods come in contact with cooked food. A single-use tube of Flavor Infuser from French’s may help. The four 10-minute marinades (in Classic Steakhouse, Zesty Italian, Caribbean Jerk and Sweet & Tangy Teriyaki flavors) come in tubes with sharp plastic tips. Insert the tip into meat, poultry or fish, squeeze to release marinade, then discard the tube. Suggested price is $2.99 for each 3.5-ounce tube. At supermarkets nationwide. Visit frenchs.com for more information.

Alternative crunches

Add a baked, gluten-free Van’s Whole Grain Cracker to your party-planning list. There are a trio of flavors to choose from, each based on a blend of gluten-free oats, brown rice, millet, quinoa and amaranth: Multigrain, Lots of Everything! (with sesame, poppy and caraway seeds plus dried onion and garlic) and Say Cheese! A 5-ounce box has a suggested price of $2.99. For more information, visit vansfoods.com.
