COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio’s development director is joining convention centers and other tourism-reliant businesses invited to brief state lawmakers on the state’s new tourism marketing program.
An Ohio House panel had a field hearing scheduled today at the Kalahari Convention Center in Sandusky.
Lawmakers are considering improved ways to market Ohio as a tourist destination, with input from industry experts and small businesses reliant on travel and tourism.
A law signed last year replaced Ohio’s Division of Travel and Tourism with a new Office of TourismOhio. The law established a five-year pilot program to test funding the state’s travel and tourism marketing budget through sales-tax revenue growth experienced by travel and tourism businesses.
Tourism is Ohio’s fourth-largest industry, supporting 443,000 jobs and generating about $43 billion annually.
