Elton John in tribute to Liberace at Emmys

LOS ANGELES

Elton John is about to do something he’s never done: Perform live at the Emmy Awards.

The television academy announced Monday that the 66-year-old musician will make his Emmy debut with a tribute to Liberace, whose life story is told in HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra.”

The movie earned 15 Emmy nominations, including lead-actor bids for Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, who play Liberace and his lover Scott Thorson. Douglas and Damon also are set to serve as presenters at the Sept. 22 Emmy ceremony.

John’s first studio album in seven years, “The Diving Board,” is set for release Sept. 24.

Neil Patrick Harris is hosting the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre, broadcast live on CBS.

Cher, Ed Sheeran among ‘Voice’ advisers

LOS ANGELES

NBC says “The Voice” is getting four new advisers, with Cher among them.

The network said Monday that coach Blake Shelton picked Cher to work with in the upcoming fifth season. As an adviser, the pop star will help Shelton groom his chosen contestants as they try to advance in the singing contest.

The other coach-adviser pairings include Christina Aguilera and Ed Sheeran, Adam Levine and Ryan Tedder, and CeeLo Green and Miguel.

“The Voice,” hosted by Carson Daly, returns Sept. 23 on NBC.

Miley Cyrus to be host, musical guest on ‘SNL’

NEW YORK

Miley Cyrus may have something to talk about when she appears on “Saturday Night Live” next month.

NBC said Monday that the singer and actress, who did some attention-getting twerking and found new uses for foam fingers during a duet with Robin Thicke on the MTV Video Music Awards last month, will be both host and musical guest of the NBC late-night program Oct. 5.

It will be the second new “Saturday Night Live” of the season. A week earlier, old favorite Tina Fey will be back as host. Arcade Fire will be the musical guest.

On Oct. 12, “Saturday Night Live” will feature the team of Bruce Willis as host and Katy Perry as musician.

Patrick Stewart tweets news of his nuptials

LOS ANGELES

Patrick Stewart is sharing the news of his nuptials on Twitter.

The 72-year-old actor posted a photo on the site Sunday of himself and his bride buried to their necks in multicolored plastic balls with the simple caption, “Yes, married.”

A Stewart spokesman confirmed Monday that the actor married Sunny Ozell on Saturday in a ceremony in Lake Tahoe officiated by Ian McKellen.

McKellen and Stewart will share the screen again in next year’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
