Boardman arrested for shooting gun outside his apartment

Staff report

Police arrested a township man for reportedly firing a gun outside of his Ridgefield Avenue apartment complex Friday.

Police arrested Dennis Villa, 61, on charges of inducing panic and using weapons while intoxicated. He is scheduled for an arraignment today in Mahoning County Area Court here.

According to police reports, officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Ridgefield apartment complex a little after 5 p.m.

Police began to gather information from the victim of the burglary when Villa started yelling at the police.

When an officer turned to see what Villa was yelling about, Villa fired a semi- automatic pistol, according to a police report.

The officer was able to detain Villa and retrieve the gun. The officer noticed the smell of alcohol on Villa while detaining him.

Police later learned that Villa was upset over how long it was taking for the police to respond to the robbery report. Villa told his neighbors he knew of a better way to get the police to respond by firing a shot off, according to the police report.
