Search for new Campbell police chief delayed

CAMPBELL — The civil-service exam that will determine the permanent replacement for former police Chief Gus Sarigianopoulos has been rescheduled for Sept. 30.

Members of the city’s police department who are vying for the position are Sgt. Drew Rauzan, who has acted as interim chief since late June; Sgt. John Rusnak; and Sgt. David Taybus, who served as interim chief from December until Rauzan’s appointment.

Rauzan said all three candidates agreed to request an extension.

“We’re so short staffed, and we don’t have time to budget enough quality studying time,” he said.

The exam was originally scheduled for mid-August, then for early September and now for late September.

Sarigianopoulos retired after 27 years with the department.
