Peace Awards to be presented at Oct. 7 banquet

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Task Force on Crime and Violence Prevention presents its final 17th Annual Peace Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Hall, 321 Via Mount Carmel.

Judge Robert Douglas, retired from Youngstown Municipal Court, will be the keynote speaker.

Awards will be given to individuals and organizations in the community who have made a difference in crime and violence prevention.

This year’s honorees are Victoria Turnage Allen; Valley Counseling Services; Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins; NOW Youngstown; Jackie Burley; The Youngstown Connection entertainment troupe; and Dr. Cynthia Anderson, former president of Youngstown State University.

The task force will work with the newly formed Community Initiative to Reduce Violence in an attempt to eliminate the duplication of efforts in the reduction of crime in the community.
