New diner coming to Boardman by end of September

Published: Fri, September 6, 2013 @ 4:55 p.m.

BOARDMAN — The former Park Diner at the corner of U.S. Route 224 and South Avenue, which closed about five years ago, has been sold to a new owner from New Jersey who plans to open a diner with an oldies theme at the end of this month.

The tin-can design that glows with blue and red lights at night is hard to miss. Located next to Long John Silver’s restaurant and just across the street from the Boardman Holiday Inn, the new owner and his general manager were impressed with the pristine condition of the building and a prime location where thousands of cars pass each day.

“This is an excellent spot with the entrances and exits. If you want to eat, this is where to come. I’ve never seen so many chain restaurants in one area before,” said general manager Lucianne Ford. “The economy, the growth and the population here is unbelievable right now. We’re excited.”

Ford has been commuting regularly from New Jersey for about two months with Thomas Giannisis, who purchased the building from the Eat’n Park chain, which owned the property. Giannisis, also from New Jersey, has owned three restaurants before, Ford said.

The latest venture will be called Oldies and Goodies Diner.
