Neighbors Blitz to feature local teams

Neighbors Blitz will be running through the football season. To have your football team featured on the Blitz page, send information on the game, as well as pictures from the match with information on the captions whenever possible, to neighbors@vindy.com.

BGMS tops Youngstown Christian

Boardman Glenwood Middle School’s seventh-grade volleyball team improved their record to 2-1 by defeating Youngstown Christian 25-7 and 25-17. Hannah Nawrocki led the team in sets with Brigita Ositis also setting strong.

The eighth-grade team also improved their record to 2-1 by beating Youngstown Christian 19-25, 25-7 and 25-14. Emma Hough was strong offensively while Riley Zawrotuk led with sets.

BGMS beats Warren

Boardman Glenwood’s football team defeated the Warren Raiders at Spartan Stadium 16-12.

Brad Boerio led the defensive effort with a 65-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Also recovering fumbles for the Spartans were John Fleet and Clayton Wehr.

Noah Falleti also contributed to a strong Glenwood defense with an interception. Falleti also led the offensive charge with a 70-yard touchdown run. DeCosta Baptiste ran in the two-point conversion to cap the Boardman Glenwood scoring.

Boardman Glenwood is coached by Vince Carnevale and Nick Colla.

Boardman girls take first

Boardman High School girls cross country team placed first in the Suburban League meet Aug. 27 at Austintown Township Park.

Top performers for Boardman were: Jordan Grantonic in first with a time of 20:22, Emma Schwendeman in third with a time of 21:05, Katelynn Morrell in sixth with a time of 21:50, Brandi Gatte in seventh with a time of 21:56, Trista Cunningham in eighth with a time of 21:57 and Elly Larrier in 10th with a time of 22:45

Glenwood takes on Salem

The Boardman Glenwood seventh-grade volleyball team lost to Salem 19-25 and 17-25 on Aug. 22 making them 1-1 on the season. Leaders on the court were Kailee James and Cate Green.

Glenwood’s eighth-grade volleyball team defeated Salem 26-24 and 27-25 to improve to 1-1 on the season. Rachel Hritz brought the team back from a deficit with her serves and Zoe Sims led with blocks.
