Spit on a cop? Go to jail
A 36-year-old woman is expected to be arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court today after she spit on a police officer late Friday in the parking lot of an East Side gas station.
Police were called to the Big Apple, 1108 McGuffey Road, about 11:35 p.m. Friday after several patrons said a woman who was drunk was trying to drive away with a child in her van.
An officer walked up to the van and when he did the driver, Kelly Portia, swore at him, reports said. The officer smelled alcohol and he asked Portia to step out, and she swore and threatened him, reports said. In the back seat was a female juvenile but reports did not say how old the girl was.
The officer took Portia out of the van and she continued swearing and spit on him, reports said. She was taken to the Mahoning County jail for the charges of driving under suspension, driving under the influence, endangering children and felonious assault. Reports said it took three female deputies to get her into a holding cell at the jail.
