Former Warren Harding High running back Dan “Boom” Herron and ex-Youngstown State lineman Lamar Mady each made NFL practice squads on Sunday, one day after being released on cutdown day.

Herron, a sixth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 draft out of Ohio State, spent most of last season on the Bengals’ practice squad before getting activated for the team’s final three games.

Mady signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in April.

“Practice squad it is #stillblessed,” Mady wrote on his Twitter account.

Fitch High graduate Dan Gerberry was released on Sunday after initially making the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 53-man roster. The center was one of seven players the Jaguars released Sunday.

“Yeah, it happens,” Gerberry said in a text. “It’s a business.”

In addition to their 53-member active roster, NFL teams are allowed up to eight players on their practice squads. Practice squad players make a minimum of $5,700 per week — the rookie minimum is just under $23,000 per week for active players — and can be signed to any team’s active roster at any time.

Canfield High graduate Sean Baker (who was cut by Tampa Bay on Saturday) and ex-YSU RB Jamaine Cook (who the Browns released Saturday) both went unsigned on Sunday. Baker also got cut by the Buccaneers last summer, then was signed to their practice squad for the final five games.

Cook originally signed with the Browns after going undrafted in April, then was released in May. He re-signed with Cleveland two weeks ago and played in the Browns’ final two preseason games.
