Luis Gomez, Carlos Melo and Kerry Doane teamed up to toss a no-hitter on Sunday against the Batavia Muckdogs in Sunday’s 6-0 victory New York-Penn League action.
Gomez struck out eight batters in the six innings he pitched. He walked one and hit a Muckdog batter.
Melo relieved Gomez in the seventh and pitched two innings, walking one and striking out two. Doane struck out two batters in the ninth inning.
According to MiLB.com, the team celebrated by dancing on the mound.
“It was actually pretty funny,” Scrappers pitching coach Scott Erickson said. “We’ve had kind of a rough season, so it’s really nice to have a day like this. The bullpen all came running in to join in.”
The Scrappers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Claudio Bautista doubled to lead off the game and scored on James Roberts’ single.
The Scrappers doubled their lead in the eighth inning when Grant Fink hit a solo homer.
They scored four times in the ninth inning to turn the game into a rout. After Garrett Smith’s one-out single, Bautista doubled to send him to third base.
Roberts singled to score them for a 4-0 lead and took third base on a throwing error.
After Fink singled to score Roberts, he came home on Paul Hendrix’s double.
