Published: Fri, October 25, 2013 @ 2:44 p.m.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland police are searching for the driver who drove off after striking and killing a 5-year-old boy walking to school before dawn.

The victim, Israel Thornton, was taken from today’s accident to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died. His identity was released by the county medical examiner.

The motorist left the scene just north of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo driving a vehicle believed to be a light-colored SUV or van. The license plate was not known.

Police think the vehicle may have damage to the grill or below. Investigators are asking that any eyewitnesses come forward.

How horrible!! A parent's worse nightmare. However, why was a 5 year old child out before dawn walking to school by himself? A complete investigation is needed and everyone, driver and neglectful parent/guardian should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the the law.
