Cross country members earn Federal League honors

The Boardman girls and boys cross country team competed in the the Federal Leauge Cross Country Championships on Oct. 12

Receiving honors for the girls team were: Jordan Grantonic named to first team, Emma Schwendeman named to second team and Trista Cunningham,

Katelynn Morrell and Brandi Gatte given honorable mention. Grantonic was also named Runner of the Year.

Receiving honors for the was team were: Mark Hadley, Alan Burns and Nathan Hadley named to first team, Justin Maroni earned second team and Jacob Kelleck earned honorable mention.

Mark Hadley was awarded Runner of the Year and John Phillips was named Coach of the Year.

Turkey shootout tournament set

Registration for St. Charles Turkey Shootout Basketball Tournament is now underway. The tournament is for fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls. Players who are 13-years-old or in the seventh-grade are ineligible.

Boys will play Nov. 7, 9, 10, 14, 16 and 17 and girls will play Nov. 22-24 at the St. Charles School Gym, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman.

Cost is $100 per team. Checks can be made payable to St. Charles Athletic Club.

Registration forms and checks should be mailed to Dave Phillips, 7995 Spartan Drive, Boardman, OH 44512 by Nov. 1.

BHS toppled by Austintown

The Boardman High School girls soccer team lost to Austintown Fitch High School in the second round of tournament play 1-4 on Oct. 17. Boardman’s Alexis Downie scored from a corner kick.

BGMS Sweeps Center

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade volleyball team finished the season with an impressive 13-3 record by defeating Center 25-10 and 25-10.

Kaylin Burkey and Cate Green led the scoring with serves. Brooke Hoffman and Kailee James were strong hitters at the net while Brigita Ositis, Hannah Nawrocki, and Ashley Lara led the hitting with solid sets.

Jenna Benko, Kara Boerio, and Mara Hierro were floor leaders in the victory over Center.

The BGMS eighth-grade team also finished the season with an impressive record of 14-2 by beating Center 25-16 and 25-23. Briawna Santiago led the scoring with serves while Zoe Sims led with kills.
