Coach to speak
Park Vista of Youngstown welcomes Carl Kokor, former Marshall University assistant football coach, at 2 p.m. today in the Park Vista Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Ave.
Kokor, a Brookfield resident, helped coach the team when it was devastated by a plane crash that killed 75 of its members during its 1970 season. He will give an account of the events that took place from the crash to the rebuilding of the team in 1971. He will also discuss his work on the movie “We Are Marshall.”
The Trumbull County Young Republicans will meet at 7 p.m. today at the new Trumbull County Republican headquarters, relocated inside the Eastwood Mall to the former H&R Block office near J.C. Penney. Guest speaker will be Mayor Arno Hill of Lordstown.
The Mahoning County Homeless Continuum of Care’s Project Connect runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Rescue Mission, Glenwood Avenue. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with agencies and get information on education, employment and housing and be offered free haircuts, blood pressure checks, blood cholesterol and blood sugar tests. They also will get a bag of food and personal care bag. The purpose of the event is to improve access to services and housing for homeless or near-homeless people. The event will engage and increase the collaborative involvement of homeless consumers, businesses and the nonprofit community.
