Staff report

Boardman police arrested a 17-year-old Wednesday in connection with assaulting an officer who was trying to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle on Oct. 3.

Davail Dow of Youngstown is charged with receiving stolen property, failure to comply, vandalism and felonious assault on a police officer, all of which are felonies. He is in custody at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.

At about 1 a.m. on Oct. 3 a Boardman police officer followed a Dodge Durango traveling down Market Street that was reported as a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle turned left onto Woodrow Avenue and pulled into a private driveway. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated and drove through the back yard of the private household. A police officer attempting to stop the vehicle was nearly hit, police report.

The vehicle got away, but a passenger jumped out to tell police what happened and who he was with.

Police later found the Durango after the driver crashed into the woods on Wildwood Drive.

The passenger was not charged in the crime.
