Man shot during suspected home invasion dies

Published: Wed, October 16, 2013 @ 8:45 a.m.

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say one of two masked men shot during what police believe to have been an attempted home invasion has died.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said 18-year-old Devonte Duck of Erie was shot in the abdomen and twice in the legs by a resident of the apartment Monday night.

Cook told the Erie Times-News following an autopsy Tuesday that Duck died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police Chief Randy Bowers said a 26-year-old man shot in the head and hip is listed in stable condition at UPMC Hamot.

Bowers said at least one of the men was armed, and officials believe they kicked in the front door of the apartment in an attempt to gain entry.
