MLB umpire Wally Bell, an Austintown native, dies

Longtime Major League Baseball umpire Wally Bell, 48, died of a heart ailment on Monday afternoon.

The Austintown native, who joined the MLB staff in 1993, has worked one World Series, two All-Star games, four League Championship Series and five Division Series, including this year's Pirates-Cardinals series.

Bell had open heart surgery in 1999.

RIP Wally. We went to school together and graduated the same year. He always was a friendly person. Prayers to his family.
