Free workshops on Affordable Care Act

Published: Mon, October 14, 2013 @ 8:30 p.m.

ValleyCare Health System of Ohio is offering free workshops on the Affordable Care Act, the health insurance marketplace, and Medicaid expansion at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren and at 10 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Liberty Township Administration Building on Church Hill Road in Liberty.

Carol Snowberger, human resources generalist, will discuss the health insurance marketplace, an initiative of the ACA, which requires that most United States citizens have health insurance beginning Jan. 1.

While Ohio has chosen not to expand Medicaid, government subsidies to help citizens obtain coverage from the health insurance marketplace are available, depending on income and other qualifications; and there are still many individuals who qualify for Medicaid coverage, ValleyCare officials said.

Reservations are recommended but not required. To register for either program, call 330-841-5727.

Keyword "citizens" required to get health insurance by 1/1.

Under the ACA, illegal immigrants will not be forced to purchase health insurance, though they will still be able to receive health care—regardless of their ability to pay—in a hospital's emergency department.
