Growers: Plenty of pumpkins available
Pumpkin-picking time has arrived, and Ohio growers say plenty are available despite crop losses caused by bouts of heavy rain.
Too much rain at peak blooming times caused problems, especially in the northern part of the state. Ohio is among the top pumpkin-producing states.
It produced about 174 million pounds last year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Experts say production should be solid this year but nothing like last year’s bumper crop, worth about $23 million.
Good Morning Canfield breakfast
Libraries, education and fire insurance will be the main topics of the annual Good Morning Canfield breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St.
Details on the expansion of the Canfield public library, the use of an education levy that voters will decide on in November and an update on Canfield homeowners’ insurance rates will be discussed.
The event is sponsored by Farmers National Bank. Cost of the breakfast is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers.
Advanced registration is required and ends Monday. Contact Jennifer Mascardine at 330-744-2131, ext. 12, for more information.
The Associated School Employees Credit Union will host a community shredding day from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at its Austintown office, 1690 S. Canfield-Niles Road.
