Stork nets shootout winner
It took eight shootout rounds, but the Youngstown Phantoms were finally able to pick up their first road win of the season 4-3 Saturday night over the Indiana Ice at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Pittsburgh native Luke Stork beat Ice goaltender Jason Pawloski to win it for the Phantoms after 13 of 15 were denied in the shootout.
Colin DeAugustine made his second straight start in net for Youngstown and stopped 32 shots to pick up the win.
The Phantoms (3-4-1, 7 points) let a three-goal lead slip away after they got goals from Fredric Larsson, Stork and Tyler Spezia in the first 5:33 of the second period.
Ten seconds after Larsson scored the game’s first goal, he and the Ice’s Michael Preston dropped the gloves and each received five minute fighting majors.
Then, 19 seconds after Spezia put the Phantoms up three goals, Blake Christiansen and Matt Roy engaged in the period’s second fight. Indiana (1-3-2, 4 points) responded with two goals later in the second period to cut the Phantoms lead to one.
Timothy Shoup tied it for the Ice with an early third-period goal that would eventually lead to overtime.
A scoreless extra session forced the first shootout of the year for each team.
In the fourth round, Brian Pinho put the puck past DeAugustine, but Christensen answered for the Phantoms to extend the shootout.
