JIM ANTELL | 50 years of making music
Education: Graduated from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in music education; master’s degree in education from YSU.
Career: Worked for New Castle City Schools from 1965 to 1968; Austintown Middle School as choir director and general music teacher, 1968-1987; Austintown Fitch High as choir director, 1987-1996. Retired in 1996 after 31 years of service.
Personal: Wife, Carol. They have been married almost 50 years and have two adult children, April Tarantine and Daniel Antell.
Community: In the fall of 2012, Antell, his daughter and Sally Williams prepared a Girard Ecumenical Choir to perform in the Premiere Stained Glass Series Concert with Youngstown Symphony Orchestra directed by Randall Craig Fleischer. He has also led community choirs for Girard Thanksgiving, Christmas and Holy Week services, patriotic services, prayer services and more. He has sung with area groups such as Tapestries of Ohio, Youngstown Symphony Chorus, Youngstown Opera choruses and other area groups.
Outreach: Has worked with Habitat for Humanity, Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, SCOPE of Warren, the United Methodist Men and taught Sunday School for many years at the Girard church.
