US Marshals arrest man charged with February traffic death on South Side

Published: Wed, October 9, 2013 @ 4:52 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Michael J. Johnson Jr., wanted on a warrant for failing to appear at his arraignment after his indictment on charges he left the scene of an accident that killed a man, was arrested this afternoon.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Johnson, 24, at a home on Rosewood Avenue, said Lt. William Ross, head of the police department’s traffic bureau.

A Mahoning County grand jury indicted Johnson in July on a charge of failure to stop after the Feb. 2 accident on West Hylda Avenue on the South Side that killed 23-year-old Robert Brown of Youngstown. Reports said Brown was killed as he was leaving a bar on Hylda and walking to his car when he was hit by a car going at a high speed that did not stop.

Johnson, however, failed to attend his arraignment in August in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court . He is in the county jail.
