Fair and open house
The Central Youngstown YMCA, 17 N. Champion St., is offering a health fair and open house from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16 that will include 70 vendors sharing information promoting health lifestyles. Also, there will be numerous free screenings, and the Mammovan will be on site.
Influenza and pneumonia shots will be available for a fee; as well as a comprehensive metabolic panel, which requires eight hours of fasting; thyroid and lipid panel from 8 a.m. to noon, and peripheral artery disease screening.
There are charges for some tests. Insurance is accepted.
Flu shots offered
The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership and the Walgreens at the corner of Gypsy Lane and Belmont Avenue are offering flu shots from 2 to 4 p.m. every other Thursday in October and November beginning Thursday at the MYCAP office, 1325 Fifth Ave. The other dates are Oct. 24 and Nov. 7 and 21.
Mahoning County residents 14 and older are eligible to receive the vaccine. An appointment is not necessary, but people should bring proof of identification, such as a driver’s license or birth certificate; private insurance card and, if applicable, the correct co-payment; or public insurance card, such as Ohio Medicaid or Medicare. Also, vouchers to offset the cost of the flu shot are available to the first 100 people who do not have any medical health insurance coverage.

The Arthritis Foundation, Great Lakes Region, Northeastern Ohio and Salem Community Hospital are offering a free community education program Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the private dining room at SCH, 1995 E. State St.
Salem Community’s Doreen Sheck will present information about prescription and over-the-counter drugs for arthritis including what the medications do and how they affect patients.

A free workshop to help parents and other family members of autistic people learn how to examine behavior situations in the home, school and community, and create proactive plans to address and prevent them, will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Warren Board of Education Administration Building, 105 High St.
Family members will identify situations and match interventions to strengths and needs.
