Man pleads guilty to punching clerk over 6 cents
YOUNGSTOWN — A man pleaded guilty to a charge of felonious assault this morning in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for punching a clerk at an East Side gas station over 6 cents.
Thomas Tubbs, 49, will be sentenced in November before Judge Lou A. D’Apolito. Prosecutors said they will abide by whatever sentence is recommended by a presentence investigation.
Tubbs is charged with punching the clerk which caused him to get stitches. The incident took place May 2 at a gas station at Oak Street and Early Road.
Tubbs said a week prior he had went to get $5 of gas and was six cents short but the clerk refused to give him the full $5 worth of gas.
Tubbs said the two exchanged words and he came back a week later and punched the clerk. Part of the assault was caught on video.
