YOUNGSTOWN

Major cities in Ohio celebrate the Islamic Day in Ohio on the second weekend in October. In 1987, then Gov. Richard Celeste designated the second Saturday in October as Islamic Day in Ohio in recognition of the growing Muslim community and its contributions to the Ohio.

The Islamic Council of Ohio, or ICO, is an umbrella organization of most Islamic Centers with delegates in the major cities in Ohio. The ICO will celebrate the 26th Islamic Day in Ohio at Masjid Al-Khair, 1670 Homewood Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12. The theme is “Sharing Our Common Moral Values” and speaker is Muhammad Hameeduddin, mayor of Teaneck, N.J.

An open house will be at the mosque from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13 with an ethnic foods sale.
