Contest winners of the Beauty of the Woods photo contest were honored Sept. 15 at The Cafe at Wittenauer’s.
The Friends of the Poland Municipal Forest hosted the photo contest for all ages.
Gordon Longmuir, president of the Friends of the Poland Municipal Forest, said the contest’s purpose is to get people in the community back into the woods.
“A lot of people who live in Poland don’t even know that the forest exists,” said Longmuir. “The forest is truly a jewel in the Poland community.”
The rules of the contest were simple. Photos must be taken within the Poland Municipal Forest and focus on nature. There were no specific categories, so participants were urged to be creative.
Winners of the contest were:

First place - Brianna Hall of Boardman with “Floating Black Leaf”
Second place - Diego Calderon of Poland second place with “Tall Trees”
Third place - Gabriella Calderon of Poland with “My Walk with Grandma.”

“I just see interesting perspectives of ordinary things,” said Downie.
Friends of the Poland Municipal Forest would like to thanks its sponsors, YM Camera, Frameworks and The Cafe at Wittenauer’s.
