Clinton: Shutdown shows ‘scorched earth’ politics

CLINTON, N.Y. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton says the partial government shutdown is emblematic of too many people in politics choosing “scorched earth over common ground.”

In a speech tonight at Hamilton College in upstate New York, the former senator and secretary of state said that it’s difficult to recall a time when politicians were willing to risk, in her words, “so much damage to the country to pursue their own agendas.”

Clinton notes that the government shutdown forced President Barack Obama to cancel his trip to an Asian summit. She says countries like Russia and China plan to attend, but, quote, “we’re not there.”

She says when her husband, former President Bill Clinton, worked with Republicans during shutdowns in the mid-1990s, neither side got everything it wanted but still balanced the budget.

Over the past few years, Republicans have terrified their most fervent followers about Obamacare in order to disguise the fact that they no longer knew what to say about their old bête noir, entitlements. Now they can’t turn the temperature down.
Not so very long ago, worrying about entitlements was central to Republican identity. Then, they began to notice that the folks at their rallies looked like the audience for “Matlock” reruns. The base was aging, and didn’t want to change Social Security or Medicare. The base didn’t even want to be reminded that Social Security and Medicare were federal programs.
All over the nation, Tea Party politicians have been telling their most fervid constituents that Obamacare will bring the federal government into the nation’s health system, thus wrecking the wonderful coverage they now enjoy with Medicare. Which comes into their homes through the chimney, where it is dropped by free-enterprise storks.

Think, if this plan was so doomed to failure why wouldn't repubs let it of into effect. It's failure would be the biggest I told you so in political history. But what they are afraid of is like everything else so far they have been wrong. When Obama came in they claimed he would crash the economy, the stock market he would cause major debt, massive unemployment of which all already existed because of Bush. No they are worried because they have read the plan and fear it might work. No republican has ever shown any concern for the American people,NONE.

I suppose the anonymity of posts protects Vindy.com from any concerns about infringement of copyright laws? Hmmm. Then again, perhaps what I read yesterday in the NY Times was reprinted/excerpted sans citation with permission by "parlayhenry" on the Vindicator's website. Although I could not vote for her, Hillary at least sounds presidential (on this occasion) when compared to the rhetoric spewed by the child currently occupying the White House. (She could have have also mentioned that Reagan and Bush worked with dem congresses to avoid and/or overcome shutdowns). Let's see...the Clown in Chief gives waivers to big business (aka donors) and all his cronies, AND the people who passed this stupid thing don't want to partake in it...... YES, SIGN ME UP!!!
S.S. and medicare are paid into by everyone who works and nobody needed to be "reminded" that they are federal programs. They are not "entitlements" in the sense of welfare, food stamps, etc. (not intended to be anyway).
All over the nation, Low Info voter party politicians have been telling their most fervid constituents that obamacare will bring free (or low cost) healthcare down their chimney and right into their bedroom, dropped off by their zombie masters.
17 TRILLION in debt!!... We need more workers, less entitlements, less gubmint. obamacare is EXACTLY the opposite of what we need to survive (but of course the socialists know that already).

gdog-seems like a good idea but will cost too much to let it get even that far. obozo thinks he got elected on obamacare. Nobody knew anything about it other than the lies told by it's supporters. he got elected on lies..by low information voters, period.
