Discussion set

How do churches find faithful balance between money reasonably spent on themselves and money spent to help others? Where is the line between expenditures that maintain a church building’s integrity and beauty and expenditures? What are the advantages and disadvantages of even having a church building?

These and other questions will be the basis for a dinner and discussion Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Churchill Road.

The potluck supper begins at 5 p.m. and the discussion at 6. Visitors are expected and welcome at both events.

Medal novena

One of the centuries-old prayer forms in the Roman Catholic Church, the Miraculous Medal Novena, began Nov. 20, 1933, at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave.

At its height, buses from downtown brought people to the novena. In the 1940s and 1950s, there were 12 novena times scheduled each Monday.

This is the 80th year of the novena at the church. It will be recited at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A breakfast in the church hall will follow.
