Youngstown brother, 25, slain outside shop on South Side

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Elliott Stewart, 25, of Maywood Drive on the city's South Side was shot to death at 5:30 p.m. Friday outside his family’s detailing shop, Breeze Car Waxing, 3628 Southern Blvd.

His brother, Elliott Stewart, 26, of Clearmont Drive, also was shot in the hip and is in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown police said. It appeared he was shot once.

The shootings stemmed from an argument at the shop during which the Stewart brothers “asked [people] to leave, someone took offense, words were exchanged and shots were fired,” said Detective Sgt. Ron Rodway.

The Stewarts went to St. Elizabeth Health Center in a private vehicle, and police arrived at the shooting scene a short time later.

Police have a person of interest in the case, but no arrest had been made as of Friday night.

A Youngstown police report says the suspect is a short, light-skinned black male who arrived in a burgundy and gold Suburban. After firing at the Stewart brothers, he drove north on Southern Boulevard, still shooting.

Before the shooting, Derrick Stewart said, he heard a commotion outside the shop, saw two females arguing and told them to leave.

The suspect was across Southern Boulevard at the time, and Derrick told him to leave also, which made the suspect angry and caused him to reach toward his side as if he had a gun, police said.

Derrick Stewart said he and the suspect talked it out, and the suspect got back into his car and began to pull away.

At about that time, Elliott Stewart pulled up in his car, and the suspect started shooting at both Stewarts, with Elliott Stewart being hit in the chest.

Breeze Car Waxing is at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and East Judson Avenue on the South Side, a couple of blocks north of the Boardman line.

The mother of Elliott and Derrick Stewart owns the shop, police said.

The homicide is the 16th of the year in Youngstown. There were 24 at this point in 2012.

It is obvious that the City of Youngstown under this administration lack of being consistent when murders take place outside of businesses plays selective enforcement and needs to shut down ALL the locations where murder and mayhem takes place. They DIDN'T shut down St. Doms Church and this Detailing business is down the street from the church. They DID shut down The Coconut Grove and the only problem that has taken place around The Coconut is a vacant house at 185 East Lucius Ave was raided and they found a security camera system and handguns scattered all over the place - but no murder!

Blame the buildings!

Do you want to shut down an entire church? Are you crazy? Why should a church have to pay for some ghetto crackheads??? Fr. Maturi has done MAGNIFICENT work with that parish since being there. Tons of people have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in security, landscaping a new church hall etc. Your comment is unbelievable! How about if we shut down YOUR church? I bet you don'r even have one. Maybe you should stop into St. Doms and say a prayer for all the good people who did so much for it.

@Kensgirl -- That was said tongue in cheek. Also, I wouldn't even try to drive in any part of Youngstown, unless I was driving in Al Capone's car and that car just sold at an auction for over $300,000 and I was bit short with my bid.

Another example of how gun violence is out of control in America. A deadly shooting just because of an argument.

Ytown has four new cops so this crap should be under control soon.

Now someone needs to deal with whomever id'd the vehicle, that is against the snitch law!!!

One of the benefits of carrying weapons is to be able to shot anybody for any misunderstanding.

I hope that the the dumb insecure boy that shot this young man, suffers the way he had made these 2 young men family suffer. Killing someone because they don't want you at their place of business what gives you the right, when your caught I hope your sentence to life, where you will have no weapons to pull on anyone so you'll spend the rest of your life as someone's b! ¥@^, R I H Elliott Stewart
