UPDATE | Policy cancellaiton: Obama will allow old plans

Published: Thu, November 14, 2013 @ 12:19 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bowing to pressure, President Barack Obama today announced changes to his health care law that would give insurance companies the option to keep offering consumers plans that would otherwise be canceled.

The administrative changes are good for just one year, though senior administration officials said they could be extended if problems with the law persist. Obama announced the changes at the White House.

Obama has been under enormous pressure from congressional Democrats to give ground on the cancellation issue under the health care overhaul, a program likely to be at the center of next year's midterm elections for control of the House and Senate.

It's unclear what the impact of today's changes will be for the millions of people who have already had their plans canceled. While officials said insurance companies will now be able to offer those people the option to renew their old plans, companies are not required to take that step.

Insurance companies will be required to inform consumers who want to keep canceled plans about the protections that are not included under those plans.

For accuracy, the AP headline should read "Obama Unilaterally Abrogates Settled Law -- Again"

Up until this morning, the Prevaricator-in-Chief was calling these cancelled plans "substandard". That was why he was OUTLAWING them and they needed changing. Now, today, those plans are OK and the people should be able to keep their substandard plans. By Executive Order, he can change the law. In the words of Jimbo, "Beam me up!". The Republicans in Congress that want to repeal the law and possibly change it are evil and disingenuous. How dare they change a law! But, it is OK for the Emperor to change a law because he believes it is best for the serfs.

So you can keep your plan, which I doubt the insurance companies will do, for one more year, which happens to bring it past the midterm elections, THEN have it canceled AFTER you vote demoncrats in office. Think of all the lovely things that will be done with a demoncrat congress, house and president.

@Ytownnative,
"AFTER you vote demoncrats in office"

If you've decided the outcome of the coming elections already, you might was well just give up.
