Cops find gun after chase

Staff report

Police found a .32-caliber revolver Friday they say was thrown by a man as he ran from police.

David Triplett, 21, of East Indianola Avenue, was arraigned Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court on felony charges of carrying concealed weapons and receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor charge of fleeing and eluding.

He is in Mahoning County jail on $15,000 bond. He is due back in court Monday.

Police were on another call in the 400 block of East Indianola about 11 p.m. Friday when another car pulled out of a driveway in front of police and drove toward Shady Run Road. Reports said officers checked the plate, and the car was determined to have been stolen earlier in the day.

Police managed to pull the car over on Campbell Street, but when they got out of their cruisers the car drove away, reports said, and stopped on Taft Avenue in a field after it went over a curb.

The driver, later identified as Triplett, was running and holding onto his waistband as though he had a gun, reports said.

As he was being chased, he went behind a home in the 2500 block of Hunter Avenue, where he was caught.

Police searched the area where Triplett was and found the gun there, reports said.
