Union Elementary School students showed their appreciation for the hard work of the firefighters of the Western Reserve Joint Fire District Oct. 24.
Students who participated in the fire safety poster contest walked to the fire station with principal Michael Masucci and presented the firefighters with a note signed by everyone in the school.
They then enjoyed a pizza party together in the room where all the posters hung.
Students who participated in the contest were: Douglas Stoudt (kindergarten), Sydney Henderson (second grade), Michael Fitzpatrick (second-grade), Katie Biggs (second grade), Emma Ebie (second grade), Nikolas McAleer (third grade), Abigail Crow (fourth grade), Kaitlyn Schneidmiller (fourth grade), Meg Dodge (fourth grade), Giana McAleer (fourth grade) and Caroline Schneidmiller (fourth grade).
Giana McAleer, fourth-grade student, explained why fire safety was important.
“If a fire happens, you need to know what to do, even if you are a little kid,” said McAleer.
Firefighter John Gulgas commended the students for doing a wonderful job on their posters.
“To see the time they took and the effort the put in warms my heart,” said Gulgas.
