Michele Lepore-Hagan to file today for the Ohio House

YOUNGSTOWN

Michele Lepore-Hagan says she will file nominating petitions today at the Mahoning County Board of Elections for the 58th Ohio House District seat, currently held by her husband, state Rep. Robert F. Hagan.

She said she’ll file at 10 a.m. in the 58th District as a Democrat in the 2014 race. She told The Vindicator two weeks ago that she’d file today.

Her husband cannot seek re-election next year because of the state’s term-limit law. Hagan ran unopposed last year for his fourth-consecutive two-year term in the state House.

Lepore-Hagan, director of Youngstown State University’s Performing Arts Series, will be the first candidate to file for this seat. The filing deadline for the May primary is Feb. 5, 2014.

Other potential candidates for the 2014 Democratic primary for this post include Youngstown Councilwoman Janet Tarpley, D-6th; Youngstown Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th; Rachel Hanni, a Youngstown school board member; Michael E. O’Hara of Youngstown, and Cynthia McWilson of Youngstown.

The district, which is overwhelmingly Democratic, includes all of Youngstown, Struthers, Campbell, Lowellville and Coitsville as well as 36 of Austintown’s 40 precincts.

"I truly want to help and serve the people of the 58th District, especially my soon-to-be unemployed husband."

Not to be outdone, Mrs. Gerberry announces to run for her husband's seat when he is term limited out.

This makes me sick.

Nepotism of the worst kind.

Her only qualifications to represent are that her husband is the state representative?

We can only hope that someone else throws their name in and takes her head on.

This is sad, sick, and disgusting. Shame on the Hagans.

Thank God and not a moment too soon! What would government be if we didn't have a Hagan "serving" society? Why not give it a try!

On another note. Since we have a highway named locally for the father of Buckwheat and Taxin' Tim, maybe we can find a sanitary sewer project that we can name after the sons. The Hagan Memorial Sh!tpipe would be appropriate and has a certain truthful ring to it.

Ha-Ha! so true Walt. I can't wait to see how her name is going to appear on the ballot. Will she use the hyphenated Lepore-Hagan? Or will it be just Hagan?

How many public pensions do they need? How greedy can the be? Isn't a railroad pension (which she gets half of what he gets when she turns 60), a pension from YSU, and a state pension enough to live on? Give us a break; just GO AWAY !!!!!!
