UPDATED | Police arrest juvenile after gunfire on the South Side

Published: Wed, November 6, 2013 @ 12:19 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN—Police found six guns and arrested a 16-year-old juvenile on a weapons charge and a warrant after answering a series of gunfire calls about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday that locked down Taft Elementary School and Wilson Junior High.

Officers called to the area were told two juveniles were running through the yards towards South Avenue and when two of them were spotted by police, they both ran away, reports said, and one of them had his arm against his side like he was trying to hold on to something.

They were both caught behind a muffler shop on South Avenue, reports said. Police retraced their steps and found a loaded 9mm handgun behind a home in the 500 block of East Florida Avenue. Officers searched more and found two 12-gauge shotguns wrapped in blankets and sheets.

Police found another 9mm handgun in the same area and also a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun that was reported stolen out of Boardman and a .32-caliber revolver.

The juvenile, Marquan White, 16, of Delaware Avenue, has a warrant from Trumbull County for trafficking in marijuana and was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon because he was the one holding onto his side like he had a weapon, reports said. The other juvenile was released to his sister.

A gunshot residue test was done on both juveniles, reports said. The results were not available yet.

All teen thug wannabes should have targets painted on their backs for law abiding citizens with fire arms to practice on! I'm so sick of gang trash.

It was lovely approaching my childrens school yesterday, and wondering why no kids, no bus drivers or anyone was around. Then they announced the school was in lockdown. This is only the first time this year, how many more? The southside is a dangerous place, especially for all the little ones who have to walk, and most ALONE...I think its about time for me to take my kids out of there. Sad as it is, you cant change a lifestyle or way of thinking, and that's whats killing Youngstown.
