Free cuts for vets
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, customers who come in to any U.S. Great Clips salon will receive, with the purchase of a service, a free haircut card to give to any current or former military member of any branch, including the National Guard. Those members also can come in on Veterans Day for a free haircut or to pick up a free haircut card to use, with proof of service, any day from Nov. 11 through Dec. 31. There is a limit of one card per customer. After Nov. 11, veterans must have a free-haircut card to get the free haircut.
Fatal crash in Pa.
SANDY lake, pa.
Pennsylvania State Police in Mercer County are investigating a fatal car crash in Sandy Lake, Pa. Police said the accident happened at 3:50 p.m. on Sandy Lake Polk Road. Two cars were involved. Police said one person is dead. No other details were available Saturday.
Springfield Local Intermediate School is having its inaugural Diabetes Awareness Walk from 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 14 at Springfield Local High School stadium, 11335 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road.
Florist Cyndi Burk will lead a holiday wreath-making program from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 12 and 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at Munnell Run Farm Pig Barn, 53 Greenville Road. Burk owns The Nut House in Mercer. A florist by trade, she is accomplished at painting, refurbishing old items and making treasure out of trash. Additionally, she is a skilled gardener who loves growing and cooking with herbs. Participants are asked to bring decorative items to enhance their natural wreaths, as well as wire cutters. All other materials will be provided. The cost is $25, and preregistration is required by Thursday and Nov. 20 for the Nov. 12 and Nov. 23 classes, respectively, by calling 724-662-2242. Space is limited.
Law Day at YSU
Youngstown State University will host its annual Law Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the Presidential Suite of Kilcawley Center.
Law-school admission representatives from various schools will be available to meet with students. Some of those attending will be the University of Akron; Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, Capital, Ohio Northern and Ave Maria universities; University of Cincinnati; Cleveland-Marshall College of Law; University of Toledo; and Indiana Tech. Students considering a career in law can gather information about law-school programs and become acquainted with representatives who will review their applications. Catalogs, applications and financial-aid information will be available. The event is sponsored by the Department of Political Science and Rigelhaupt Pre-Law Center at YSU.
