Schoenike tells family he is fine and in Wisconsin

Published: Mon, May 20, 2013 @ 11:01 a.m.

SPRINGFIELD — Missing attorney and school board member Jon Schoenike has been found in Wisconsin.

Township police Chief Matt Mohn said the family found out where Schoenike at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when Schoenike called his wife. Mohn said Schoenike told his wife he was fine but did not give a reason as to why he left home.

His family is on its way to Wisconsin to visit him, Mohn said.

Schoenike was first reported missing by his family Friday after his vehicle was found in Boardman with the keys, wallet and cell phone still inside. That report led to a series of vigils and media accounts.

This is a breaking news story. Watch Vindy.com for details and see Tuesday's Vindicator.

I really hope that he reimburses local law enforement & all the people who paid to copy fliers to post while searching for him. Terrible.

Glad he is okay, but more details NEED to be given on circumstances on his disappearance. Don't give me privacy as a reason. Privacy was lost when the local authorities, FBI, and news media was brought in the mix by the family.

You idiots who posts these offensive comments should be ashamed of yourselves. It is obvious that this man has suffered some medical problem and as a result his family had to endure a weekend of hell. So please keep those comments to yourselves and let this family deal with the issue they must face.

Just curious, ytown67...why is it "obvious" that he suffered a medical issue? He ended up several hundred miles away...with the means to not only travel that far, but also access to a phone (he called his wife, correct?)...he wasn't so ill or in such a state that he couldn't remember her phone number...he could've contacted her or another family member well before the FBI & local law enforcement wasted precious resources.

I agree Kat. All details need to be made public. Taxpayer money was used to look for a guy who left voluntarily. I am glad he is safe, however, the circumstances need to come forth due to his position on the school board if nothing else? Is it a mental disorder that could cause him to snap around kids? I'm sure he is a great guy, but if he left because of a domestic argument, then they should reimburse police for man power used in searching for him.

Im glad that he is safe. However there are many unanswered questions. Things that don't make sense. What sort of "medical condition" would one have that would prevent them from calling home yet permit them to travel all the way to Wisconsin? I assume the media will request all the reports now that this case is "closed" and will report the circumstances. And here's a big question. His wife saw him Friday morning. By Friday afternoon when she doesn't hear from him, the police are involved, they have pinged his cell phone and began an all-scale investigation. Is this how they would handle this if this was just a regular person or is this reserved for the rich and famous? Because I have a feeling if I tried report my spouse missing after not being able to reach him for a few hours the police would laugh at me! I hope they pay for the cost of the investigation.

They are both lawyers so they will either not tell anything or create some fictional story.i hope law enforement and the local media dont rely on the family for facts and do some serious investigating for the truth. If they are not forthcoming he needs to resign from SLHS school board.

The FBI hates to have their time wasted. If these two "lawyer up" the FBI will find out what happened.
